From Sun to Snow

So I was finally going to start uploading photos of the cruise (not that many, to be honest. mostly of food, but who cares about that??), but then I realised that I haven't even finished documenting my West Coast American roadtrip yet, and we can't have that before we start on something else can we? (No, we can't.)

After we left socal and the Big Sur we proceeded to drive through some amazing Redwoods national parks. Can I just say it is one of my life's biggest regrets to have not charged my camera's battery the night before, because when the red battery sign started flashing on my screen 30 minutes before it ultimately drained out, I thought I could cry. There we were, in the middle of the woods, with nothing but miles and miles of winding road surrounded by the tallest and most beautiful trees and woodlands that I've ever ever seen, and no camera to record it all. I did have some film camera, but with the lack of proper sunlight and no flash, the chances of those photos being able to fully capture such splendour is low indeed. Yep, my friends should have just left me there for my idiocy. Despite this, we had the best time traipsing through the silent woods, climbing fallen Redwoods with diameters taller than any of us, exploring eaten out tree barks, tramping across little bridges that extended over trickling streams, and dancing to "Teach Me How to Dougie" while on precariously perched branches.

After that we headed inland, through Oregon towards Crater Lake. When I was planning the trip I googled a whole shit load of places, and Crater Lake kept popping up on the things you have to see when doing a PCH roadtrip. So when we were making our plans in California I practically demanded to make the drive up, even though it was out of the way. And I'm so glad I did because it was breathtaking. Breathtaking and FREEZING. None of us anticipated the mountainous chill, and the layers of snow that kept rising with every mile we drove past towards Crater Lake. There we were, still dressed for Californian spring, and THERE WAS SNOW EVERYWHERE. So we basically drove something like 5 hours to see Crater Lake and we were there for a grand total of maybe about an hour before we hightailed it out of there because we were starting to lose feeling in our toes. Hopefully one day I get to go back in the summer and do some camping/hiking. Oh who am I kidding, I'm not the camping type unless its luxury camping with a butler, bodyguard and a chef.

After that it was time to hit up Portland for some shopping, and of course Voodoo donuts. Hands down the craziest but yummiest donuts I've ever had. Kripy Kreme who??

With that, it was on to Seattle and the last leg of our Great West Coast Adventure! And I can safely look back and say, I REGRET NOTHING.
